California Oaks
California oaks are an extraordinary study in form, texture and tonal contrast. By removing color, the landscape is reduced to its essential elements—the skeletal structure of the trees, the texture of bark and earth, and the patterns created by light and shadow.
What continually draws me back to these trees is not any one of those elements, but the way form, light and composition can converge within the frame. Their twisting limbs and irregular shapes create an almost graphic landscape, one that changes dramatically as the light moves across it.
